Kinesiology

Research in Kinesiology focuses on optimizing sport performance through applied projects. We study various approaches to enhance performance and ensure safety for both elite and recreational athletes. Additionally, we investigate the impact of physical activity on the health of different age groups. Our research also includes ergonomics, aiming to improve human well-being and health in both working and living environments. Moreover, a significant portion of our work is devoted to methodological research, which includes investigations of the validity, reproducibility, and applicability of various tests, measurement procedures, and methods used in kinesiological research and practice.

The main areas of research

In recent years, our research and projects have been primarily focused on:

  • Studying asymmetries in different contexts (sport, injury prevention)
  • Monitoring 24-hour behaviour (sleep, physical activity and sedentary behaviour)
  • Advanced biomechanical analyses of human movement and motor skills
  • Adaptation of school and office furniture to pupils and students/workers
  • Assessment, prevention and treatment of chronic pain (with a particular focus on low back pain)
  • Assessment of muscle properties by ultrasound (ultrasound elastography, measurement of muscle architecture)
  • Investigating the validity of affordable methods to measure motor skills (e.g. hand-held dynamometers to measure muscle strength)
