Introduction to the most frequent acute and chronic conditions
• Gastrointestinal diseases
• Liver and pancreatic diseases
• Immune diseases and allergies
• Renal diseases
• Some central nervous system diseases
• Diseases of lipid metabolism (dyslipidemias)
• Malignant diseases and complications in the treatment of malignant diseases
• Peculiarities in the nutrition of newborns and babies
• Congenital digestive diseases
• Obesity
• At the end of this section, the students are able to understand individual pathological processes and the role of nutrition in the development of diseases and their treatment.

Nutritional status assessment
• Composition, use and analysis of the diet journal (interview)
• Understanding the clinical assessment of the nutritional status (measurements and biochemistry)
• Nutritional intake assessment according to the energy intake and composition by individual nutrient groups
• Intake adequacy assessment according to the patient’s present medical condition
• Understanding the instructions of the collaborating health care staff and participation in the making of a treatment strategy
• At the end of this section, the students are able to assess the patient’s nutritional status and habits, and evaluate them according to the present medical condition and the treatment plan in collaboration with the other members of the health care team.

Diet planning and monitoring the clinical diet therapy programme
• Diet composition for individual patients during their hospitalization
• Nutrition care plan at discharge
• Nutritional counselling for outpatients
• Nutritional counselling for newborns and babies
• Monitoring the dietetic treatment
• Recording patient management and co-designing health care documentation
• At the end of this section, the students are able to prepare individual diet therapy programmes that are based on the patient’s prior status and habits assessment and on the treatment programme of the health care team. They are able to monitor and document the course of the diet therapy.
