A brief description of the area
Preventive interventions have an important role in reducing the burden of various health conditions and musculoskeletal injuries. Research in prevention aims to identify risk factors and evaluate, as well as compare, the effectiveness of different interventions for decreasing the occurrence of a condition or injury.
A brief description of major research
In our past research we focused on the effects of occupational workloads on trunk neuromuscular properties. We evaluated the effects of repetitive trunk flexion and prolonged sitting on trunk intrinsic stiffness, reflex responses, resting muscle activity and flexibility.
Part of our research was focused on discovering the acute and chronic effects of eccentric training on hamstring neuromuscular properties. Chronic adaptations to eccentric training were investigated in a large intervention study.
Furthermore, members of our Department were active in the field of ergonomics and in the application of kinesiotape. We successfully completed two projects on workplace injury prevention and one project on sports injury prevention.
