Associate Professor Igor Karnju\u0161<\/span><\/span> and Assistant Jakob Renko<\/span><\/span>, together with three undergraduate Nursing students (Manca Dolenc, Rene Podri\u010dnik, and Dejan Savi\u0107), participated in the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) \u201cNursing Crisis Interventions,\u201d<\/em> held at Thomas More University of Applied Sciences<\/span><\/span> in Mechelen<\/span><\/span> from March 9 to 13, 2026.<\/p>\n
The programme focused on developing students\u2019 professional competencies in nursing, with particular emphasis on the use of modern simulation-based teaching methods. Participants took part in intensive simulation workshops and hands-on training in well-equipped simulation laboratories, where they carried out clinical scenarios using high-fidelity simulators and standardized patients.<\/p>\n
Special attention was given to managing crisis situations, applying the ABCDE approach in patient assessment, and developing communication and teamwork skills in acute healthcare settings.<\/p>\n
The programme also included visits to clinical environments, where participants gained insight into the organization of healthcare within the Belgian system, including the operation of an emergency department in Mechelen and a psychiatric institution.<\/p>\n
In addition to the professional activities, cultural and social events were organized, enabling networking among students and teachers from several countries (Malta, Slovenia, Finland, Turkey, and Belgium) and the exchange of experiences in nursing education.<\/p>\n
Participation in the programme significantly contributed to the exchange of good practices in simulation-based education, the development of innovative pedagogical approaches, and the strengthening of international cooperation and professional networking among the participating institutions.<\/p>\n
During the week of March 9 to 13, 2026, lecturer Barbara Jur\u0161a Potocco<\/span><\/span> participated in a project event in Estonia whithin the PERFECT project (Promoting English Readiness For Effective Care and Trust of Nurses<\/em>, Erasmus+ KA2).<\/p>\n
The study visit at the University of Applied Health Sciences in Tartu<\/span><\/span> was aimed at piloting and evaluating the suitability of the learning materials developed within the project.<\/p>\n
The event also included a visit to Ida-Tallinna Keskhaigla hospital in Tallinn<\/span><\/span>, where nursing staff presented their daily challenges in communicating with patients, as well as their specific needs regarding the use of the English language.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
In Parma<\/span><\/span>, Italy, the international conference of the European Federation of Educators in Nursing Science<\/span><\/span> (FINE), titled \u201cStrengthening Nursing Education for a Safer Tomorrow,\u201d<\/em> took place on March 5 and 6, 2026. The conference addressed current challenges related to nursing education in Europe today.<\/p>\n
The day before the conference, assoc. prof. Mirko Prosen<\/span><\/span> attended a meeting of the association\u2019s executive board, where key policy directions and measures for the future development of nursing education were discussed.<\/p>\n
One of the main outcomes of the conference was the \u201cParma Commitment,\u201d<\/em> which supported FINE\u2019s efforts outlined in the Luxembourg Declaration<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n
The conference provided an important opportunity for international networking and for establishing new partnerships with institutions from various European countries, including those with which collaboration had not yet been established.<\/p>\n

\u201cNursing Higher Education Teachers\u2019 Perspectives on Using AI to Support Teaching and Learning in Slovenia: A Qualitative Descriptive Study.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
On January 22 and 23, 2026, Assoc. Prof. Mirko Prosen and Assoc. Prof. Sabina Li\u010den attended the kick-off meeting of the GENDER-HehS project in Barcelona, where the partners coordinated the organization of work, the timetable, and determined the key points and milestones of the project. On this occasion, they also visited the university hospital and learned about innovative solutions designed to support clinical education, research work, and the introduction of modern approaches to medical practice.<\/p>\n
The Enhancing Gender Perspectives in Higher Education for Healthcare Students (GENDER-HehS) project is a three-year Erasmus+ project (KA220-HED) that aims to systematically integrate gender perspectives into the education of healthcare\/medical students, thereby improving the quality, fairness, and sensitivity of future healthcare. The project is developing a common European framework of basic competencies in the field of gender-sensitive care, preparing a handbook and a set of tools for incorporating these contents into study programs, designing a new measurement instrument for assessing student competencies, and conducting training for higher education teachers and students.<\/p>\n
The consortium consists of the Institut de Investigaci\u00f3 en Ci\u00e8ncies de la Salut Germans Trias i Pujol as the lead organisation from Spain, the Fundaci\u00f3 Tecnocampus Matar\u00f3-Maresme and the Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona from Spain, Nord University from Norway, the University of Primorska Faculty of Health Sciences from Slovenia, and Hacettepe University from Turkey, providing an interdisciplinary and international basis for the development of common, transferable solutions at the European level.<\/p>\n
As part of a week-long research and teaching visit to the Fakult\u00e4t f\u00fcr Sportwissenschaft, Ruhr-Universit\u00e4t Bochum, Assist Matic Sa\u0161ek, PhD gave a guest lecture in the master’s program entitled “Chasing speed: insights from resisted, curvilinear, and linear sprint profiling and training.” During the visit, he and his colleagues from the German faculty discussed current scientific issues in the field of speed and performance training, the teaching process, and further cooperation in research.<\/p>\n
At the four-day meeting of FINE (European Federation of Educators in Nursing Science) in Neuch\u00e2tel, Switzerland, Assoc. Prof. Mirko Prosen and other committee members focused primarily on strategic planning for the federation’s future activities. Special attention was paid to preparations for the next international conference, which will take place in Parma, and to agreeing on the schedule and content of the next working meeting of members. The discussion focused on consolidating the continuity of work and clear organisational steps for the next period of operation. An important part of the discussions was also devoted to the development and submission of joint European projects. The meeting also addressed the role of FINE in the broader political context. The discussion focused on cooperation with decision-makers in the European Parliament and active participation in shaping the future directive on regulated professions, particularly in relation to the education and competences of nurses. The need for a unified and professionally grounded approach by the federation, which can effectively represent the interests of nursing educators and students at the European level, was emphasized.<\/p>\n
The FINE General Assembly was also held on the sidelines of the four-day meeting. During the same time frame, Assoc. Prof. Mirko Prosen and Assoc. Prof. Sabina Li\u010den held a workshop on the active participation of health science students in the learning process, which was repeated twice due to high interest.<\/p>\n
Karmen Zazijal from the Office for Research and International Cooperation at the Faculty of Health Sciences attended the Central European Joint Infodays 2025 event, which took place on December 1 and 2, 2025, in Brno (Czech Republic). It was organized by the national agencies of the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia, with the Slovenian national agency (CMEPIUS) joining as a co-organizer this year.<\/p>\n

As UP FVZ is also in the process of preparing an EMJM project in collaboration with French partners, participation in the event was very useful. It gained a lot of new knowledge and useful information about program application procedures, learned about good practices, and networked with potential partners from abroad.<\/p>\n
Assist. Jakob Renko attended the First-Time Researchers’ Academy event in Lisbon between November 17 and 21, 2025. The event, organized by Universidade Cat\u00f3lica Portuguesa as part of the European university T4EU, was intended for young researchers and doctoral students in their final years of study. The intensive program offered an opportunity for networking, exchanging experiences, and acquiring knowledge essential for further academic career development.<\/p>\n
Between 6 and 9 November, Eva Le\u0161nik Filip\u010di\u010d (Office for Research and International Cooperation) attended events as part of Berlin Science Week, which took place from November 1 to 10, 2025, and included events throughout the city. The theme of this year’s festival was Beyond Now, marking the 10th anniversary of the festival. Among other things, she also attended the 60th Queen’s Lecture, a series of lectures that began with a visit by Queen Elizabeth II in 1965. The event was co-organized by Technische Universit\u00e4t Berlin, the British Embassy Germany, and the British Council Germany. This year’s lecturer was Adam Amara, who gave a lecture entitled “Cosmic Origins and Alien Worlds: The Next Era of Space Exploration.” She also attended lectures on the second weekend of Science Week as part of the FORUM festival and visited exhibitions and pop-up stands at Holzmartk 25.<\/p>\n

From October 25 to 28, 2025, as part of bilateral cooperation between Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Prof. Dr. Aleksandar Kukri\u0107 from the University of Banja Luka, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, hosted a research visit by Doc. Dr. Matej Plevnik. During the visit, data on the physical characteristics and walking patterns of children in grades 3 to 6 carrying school bags, which had been collected by researchers in the spring, were reviewed.<\/p>\n
At the invitation of the Agency for Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Croatia, Assoc. Prof. Sabina Li\u010den, PhD, as a member of the international expert panel, participated in the re-accreditation process of the University of \u0160ibenik, where, together with other experts, she assessed the quality of the university’s educational work, research activities, and institutional development.<\/p>\n
Prof. Ma\u0161a \u010cerneli\u010d Bizjak, PhD participated in an E+ KA171 mobility visit at one of Brazil\u2019s and Latin America\u2019s leading universities, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). The purpose of the visit was to deepen the existing research collaboration and experience, promote knowledge exchange, and strengthen international relations. At the beginning of her visit, Dr. \u010cerneli\u010d Bizjak met with the Vice-Rector for International Relations and visited the Pampulha campus. The meeting focused on enhancing institutional cooperation between the UP and UFMG, with particular emphasis on opportunities for academic exchange, joint project development, and the advancement of interdisciplinary partnerships. At the Sa\u00fade campus, she visited the Memorial, Documentation, and Exhibition Center of the School of Nursing, as well as the Research Unit for Anorexia and Bulimia (NIAB). At the UFMG Faculty of Nursing, she was hosted by the Department of Nursing and the Department of Nutrition, where she delivered lectures on the diagnostic criteria and clinical complexity of disordered eating and eating disorders, as well as prevention systems and intervention activities.<\/p>\n
As part of a three-month research exchange at the Innovation Center of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Belgrade (ETF), Assist. Prof. \u017diga Kozinc, PhD. participated in the development of an advanced experimental protocol for the simultaneous analysis of body posture and eye movement during reading. Using Xsens inertial sensors and an eye tracking system, the team developed an innovative methodology that opens up new opportunities for understanding the connection between motor and cognitive processes and for further interdisciplinary research in the field of ergonomics and kinesiology.<\/p>\n
At the beginning of September, Tanja \u010cre\u0161novar and Bernarda Habe attended the 47th International Congress of ESPEN 2025 (European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism), which took place in Prague. As part of the Life Long Learning (LLL) program, they took three exams, which are part of the requirements for obtaining an LLL diploma in clinical nutrition. They also attended various professional and scientific sections and lectures, where the latest findings in the field of nutritional support, enteral and parenteral nutrition, and metabolic disorders were presented. The congress was an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues from other European countries and exchange professional experiences. Participation in the ESPEN conference has contributed significantly to professional development and the upgrading of knowledge in the field of clinical nutrition.<\/p>\n
Assist. Prof. Tadeja Jakus, PhD and Prof. Mihaela Jurdana, PhD actively participated in the 75th Congress of the Italian Physiological Society (SIF), held in Turin from 17 to 19 September 2025.<\/p>\n
For the first time, the congress was organised as a joint meeting of Italian and Slovenian physiologists. The event covered a wide range of topics in physiology and pathophysiology and enabled fruitful exchange of knowledge and experience. Such collaboration represents an important step in strengthening cross-border professional cooperation.<\/p>\n
Between 15 and 19 September, the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) titled Antimicrobial Stewardship: Managing Antibiotic Resistance<\/em> took place at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Finland. The University of Primorska, Faculty of Health Sciences, was represented by five postgraduate students, Prof. Darja Barli\u010d Maganja, PhD, and lecturer Ines Dujc.<\/p>\n
Participants from Malta, Italy, Finland and the United Kingdom also took part in the programme, enabling a rich international exchange of knowledge, experience, and good practices. Activities were held daily in the form of lectures, discussions and group work, and one day was dedicated to full-day simulations.<\/p>\n

Participation in the programme was extremely valuable, as it enabled the strengthening of professional knowledge and competencies, the development of a critical understanding of antimicrobial resistance, and practical experience in designing strategies for the responsible use of antibiotics. In addition, it facilitated the establishment of international connections that will contribute to more effective management of challenges related to global antimicrobial resistance in the future.<\/p>\n
From 16 to 18 September 2025, Assoc. Prof. Matej Plevnik, PhD<\/strong>, attended the final partner meeting of the Upskilling Coaches for Children\u2019s Motor Development (PETIT)<\/strong> project. The meeting took place in Conversano and Bari, Italy, and brought together representatives of Sports Association Endorfin, the University of Primorska, Pallamano Conversano and Sport VIV.<\/p>\n
The project will officially conclude in October 2025. As part of the initiative, the partners have prepared numerous video materials and other educational resources, which are publicly available on the project website: https:\/\/petit.endorfin.si\/<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
