Students will gain knowledge about the relationship between movement behaviours and health, methods for assessment of movement behaviours, factors that influence movement behaviours, and principles of designing interventions for influencing movement behaviours. They will gain knowledge about public health 24-hour movement guidelines for different age groups, and other strategic documents for supporting healthy 24-hour movement behaviours. The students learn about the metabolic requirements of the brain and learn about the role of the brain in controlling the food intake through three mechanisms: circadian rhythms, homeostatic control and reward system. Brain is also central in analysing food through flavour, which is a complex perception composed of the information of all senses, information from the gastrointestinal system and adipose tissue and our previous knowledge. How can we plan a well-balanced vegan diet for an athlete, avoiding nutrient deficiencies? Do alternative food sources such as artificial sweeteners and alternative protein sources affect our health?
